7 RULES ON HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH ARROGANT PEOPLE
Surely all of us at least once in our lives have come across arrogant people with whom it is extremely difficult to communicate. And sometimes even unpleasant.
Of course, it is unpleasant when people talk to you in a condescending tone. And it does not matter who allows himself such behavior: a manager, a friend or a parent. Some people are trying to show their superiority in this way. What should you do?
Today I will tell you how to communicate with arrogant people:
1. Set boundaries and always stand up for them.
Let your interlocutor know that you will not allow them to be violated under any circumstances. And if he wants to communicate with you, he must respect your personal space.
2. Recognize passive aggression and respond accordingly.
For example, it is characterized by phrases like, "Honey, what did I say that made you angry?", "No one expects you to be able to read minds", "Do what you want". These kinds of phrases can make us mad. However, in this case, the interlocutor does not provoke conflict openly. In this case, you should either respond calmly or ignore the remark.
3. Acknowledge that the person you are talking to is right and change the topic of conversation.
Especially if you're bored with the topic and it's not pleasant at all. In this way you will discourage your interlocutor from continuing the discussion on this topic.
4. End the dialogue.
Especially if you see that the interlocutor doesn't understand hints or specific words. You get the feeling as if he doesn't hear you or is deliberately doing the opposite. In this case, there is nothing to talk to the person about.
5. Record what the person is saying and have the dialogue in front of witnesses.
For example, if you got a toxic colleague who is plotting against you. Try to conduct a dialogue with him in the company of other people, so that people around you will pay attention to the behavior of this person. It is good if among them will be your supervisor, who, in a good way, should take action.
6. Use humor to confront your interlocutor.
A good joke can discourage the interlocutor and gently point out that his way of speaking leaves something to be desired.
For example, if your interlocutor condescendingly says, "I didn't expect you to understand me," you can reply with a smile, "Yes, this topic is beyond fantasy, only a select few will understand it.
7. Speak as well as your interlocutor.
Imagine that you are tempering him. In short, reciprocate him. However, this technique does not work on those. It only works on people who are perceptive enough to understand why you do it.
