How not to be ashamed of your feelings and openly experience them?

Alas, it is our childhood mentors who teach us to be ashamed of our own feelings. We are talking about parents, educators, teachers, who have been telling us since we were little that it is shameful for boys to cry, it is not cultural to laugh loudly, it is stupid to be afraid.

It is thanks to our teachers, many adults are afraid of a sincere expression of feelings and emotions, trying to bury them, hide them.

Let's talk about how to deal with the consequences of "closed", and how to learn to openly experience their own emotions without shyness.

Why is not good to hide emotions?

When a person puts his feelings "on the fuse" and is afraid that the feelings will splash over the edge, he begins to accumulate negative. And it does not matter: bad emotions you hide or good ones.

For example: you feel sympathy for the man, but you are afraid of his reaction to it, so you hide feelings. Your fear of being exposed begins to eat you up from the inside, over time it will strike at your own psyche.

Or, you are a non-conflict person, and you try to keep silent so as not to fuel the conflict. But people who are quarrelsome and feisty are attracted to you like a magnet. You chew up one grievance after another, and the internal tension is growing. This threatens a nervous breakdown.

Or, here's another example: you are afraid of dogs, but you come to visit a friend and try not to show your phobia. You're afraid that your emotion might offend, since she has a real pet kennel at home. Your fear gets bigger every time, and one day it will break out.

What can I do to stop being embarrassed?

  • The first thing you should understand is that you have the right to express all your emotions, be they tears, anger, fear, joy, love... And in general, all those that only a person is able to reproduce!
  • Your authority does not suffer from the fact that you are an emotional person. That is to say, it doesn't get any worse if you start expressing emotions.
  • No matter what kind of person you are, there will always be those who don't like you. Think not about them, but about yourself first.
  • As for negative emotions, anger and aggression, just expressing your feelings won't solve the problem. Start not with the screaming or accusations, and with an explanation of why a particular word, action of the partner, interlocutor makes you angry.

Showing negative emotion is just admitting that you have anger and trying to establish a dialogue, not just shaking the air.

Negative emotions, however, are normal.

You shouldn't be afraid of them, and sports can help you deal with them. From aggressive directions, to the usual fitness. The body is quite good at getting rid of all the accumulated contradictions during exercise.
